Linux -> XP <- Linux

ich besitze einen Acer Aspire one.
Ich hatte Windows XP darauf installiert, war jedoch mit der performance nicht zufrieden.
Darauf hin habe ich wieder Linpus Linux mit der Recovery CD Installiert, hab jetzt jedoch nur mehr 3,7 GB frei. Ich bezweifle dass Linux über 4 GB benötigt. Kann das sein, dass Linux nur drüber installiert worden ist und die XP Dateien nicht gelöscht worden sind.

Was für ein Modell hast Du? Bei der Linpus Version wird eine Swap Partition von 1 GB Größe mitinstalliert. Die fehlt Dir natürlich auch noch

Eine Swap Partition ist - vereinfacht ausgedrückt - der Platz auf der Festplatte, den das Betriebssystem zum Auslagern von Daten verwendet, wenn der Hauptspeicher nicht mehr ausreicht. Bei sehr vielen geöffneten Programmen ist das bei der 512 MB Version möglich, aber nicht besonders wahrscheinlich.

Die Partitionierung kannst Du leicht selber feststellen. Öffne mal ein Terminal. M.W. sollte das beim Acer mit

alt+f2 -> xterm

funktionieren. Jetzt gibst du

sudo fdisk -l

ein.

den arbeitsspeicher hab ich schon auf 1,5 GB erweitert, kann ich dann vlt. diese Swap Partition entfernen

Damit sollte die Swap Partition überflüssig werden. Um diese zu entfernen mußt Du allerdings von einer anderen Platte (oder Stick) booten und mit einem Partitionseditor die Swap Partition entfernen. Am besten geht das mit einer bootbaren Version von GPartEd.

"Now the interesting part. The 1GB swap partition. If you got 1GB of RAM installed you can easily disable it, even with 512MB if you're only using the installed applications on the AA1. A booted system uses only 135MB. You can check your memory usage by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.

To get that extra GB, you'll need to boot gparted from an USB stick. You can download it here, instructions here, syslinux here. You can also use partedmagic, no difference. Remove any SD cards when booting.

Next edit /etc/fstab to prevent swap from mounting. Don't modify the other lines.

Boot gparted, delete the linux-swap partition and resize the remaining one. I've made some screenshots showing the progress, from left to right, of the whole operation. Be warned that you might lose all your data if you make some terrible mistake! The recovery tool will still work and recreate both partitions and everything as it once was."

ich bekomm geparted nicht zum laufen, meldet mir beim booten vom usb stick immer einen fehler

Wie lautet die Fehlermeldung?

diese Zeile habe ich gelöscht:
#/dev/sda2 swap swap defaults 0 0

dann mit geparted gebootet.

bis zu dieser fehlermeldung:

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

Versuche mal GPartEd mit einem anderen Grafikmodus (Vesa) zu starten.

Gparted Live (Default Settings) - hier habe ich die Fehlermeldung erhalten
Gparted Live (To Ram. Boot media can be removed later)
Gparted Live (Safe graphic settings, vga = normal)
Gparted Live (Failsafe mode)
LOcal operating system in harddrive (if available)
Memory test using Memtest86+

Please keep only the resolutions you would like the X server to use. Removing all of them is the same as removing none, since in both cases the X server will attempt to use the highest possible resolution.

Dann eine Liste aller Auflösung von 1920*1440 bis 640*480.
